In this cherished Chinese zodiac legend, twelve animals race across a mighty river to determine their place in the lunar calendar. Each journey reveals lessons of courage, kindness, and cleverness - explaining why the quick-witted Rat earns the first year, and how every animal finds its place in the cycle of time that endures today.
Creation of Turtle Island (Haudenosaunee Confederacy)
A foundational story of the Haudenosaunee people begins when Skywoman falls from the Sky World above. With the help of animals, she lands on the back of a great turtle and brings life to the earth. This creation story reminds us of the importance of balance, gratitude, and our connection to the natural world.
Oshun Takes Flight (Nigeria)
From Yoruba mythology comes the story of Oshun, goddess of fresh water, love, and fertility. When the world faced drought and despair, Oshun’s compassion and power restored harmony. Her story celebrates resilience, generosity, and the life-giving force of love itself.
